The value of time (Friends of Scouting donations)

We know there is never enough of it. We know we need to value the little we have of it with our children. We know that with all the activities and commitments they have, we need to ensure that their time is well spent and meaningful.

For over 100 years, Scouting has kept its commitment to families to give parents and children time to explore the world together, to help children discover new skills and interests, and to prepare every Scout for life.

Scouting understands that children need balanced opportunities to grow; that time spent outdoors camping under the stars is as valuable as time spent building a robot, that learning how to play an instrument is as meaningful as learning how to play chess, and that knowing how to save a life is as fundamental a skill now as it was in 1910.

Support your child's development, exploration, and discovery with a gift to Scouting today. Your gift will support programs that directly benefit your child and your community while ensuring that we can offer Scouting to every child who wants to be a Scout regardless of their financial capacity.

December 2011 camping newsletter

Dear Friends of Whitsett, Emerald Bay, and Camp Josepho,

As we close the books on 2011, I want to thank all of you for helping to make this another amazing year for Scouting. In 2011, Scouts at Emerald Bay and Whitsett earned over 15,000 merit badges. Thanks to the generous support of our donors, we were able to provide well over $30,000 in scholarships for those who would otherwise be unable to experience summer camp, and over 21,000 people visited us at Whitsett, Emerald Bay, or Josepho.

As we head into 2012, we hear daily from Scouts and Scouters excited about all that lays ahead. While you enjoy the holidays with your friends and family, please take a moment to reflect on the difference that Scouting has made in your life, and to consider giving the gift of camping to someone in 2012. Thank you again for all of your support.

Yours in Scouting,

James Rushton

This is an exciting rare opportunity for Scouts to be among the first to camp at the Summit Bechtel Reserve in summer 2012, a year prior to the 2013 Jamboree!

You will be playing an important role in the final planning process for the 2013 National Scout Jamboree. Plus, you will be able to have a Jamboree experience at a fraction of the cost of a National Scout Jamboree!

Only 36 very lucky Scouts will have the opportunity to participate!
