Family in need of help - house fire

Dear Scout families,

One of the Scout families (Edward and Robert Grimm) in Troop 391 had a devastating loss yesterday when their house caught fire and was destroyed. Luckily, their two boys were away at school and the mother was able to get out of the house safely. However, all of their belongings are a total loss.

I'm hoping that Scouters in the WLACC can provide some assistance to the family in the form of donations of equipment, or gift cards to purchase clothing and school supplies and other necessities for the family.

I know that the Scouting family has come through in the past and I'm praying that we can help a much deserving family. This is one of my most active families and these two boys are always there to help others, work at their church, and other community activities.

Donations can be turned in at the BSA office or to myself and we will see that it gets to the family as soon as possible.

Thank you.

Scoutmaster

September 10-11, 2011 - Camping/hiking at Mt. Whitney

If there is a troop that would like to go climb Mt. Whitney, I would ask that they have one adult and transportation from their troop. We will always have 2 deep, I just want a leader from the other troop that knows their boys.

Right now I think that we will have 4-5 extra permits, maybe more.

We will camp Friday September 10 at Whitney Portal and hike in Saturday, climb the peak Saturday morning and hike out the same day, returning Saturday night.

They will be responsible for their own food and transportation.

Permits are $5.00.

You can call me at (661) 675-7321 (cell) or (661) 944-3000 (home) - leave a message at both.

Thanks,

Garth

October 15-17, 2010 - Antelope Valley centennial jamboree

Please save the date for Oct 15-17 for a weekend of fun and excitement. Antelope Valley District is trying to put together a great program for that weekend, but we need your help.

First of all, we would like to know if your unit would attend this event, and what would the youth like to see there, and as with all activities we need volunteers. What would your unit be able to help with, and would your unit like to help plan this event.

Kathy Rennie is our primary contact for this event and can be reached at (661) 860-9879 or katlady4411@sbcglobal.net. Please let her or myself know by the close of business on Tuesday Sept. 28th. If you are willing to help out and plan this activity, please attend the meeting at Nick's Pizzeria at 6:00pm the evening of Sept. 28th.

We will put more information out as we get this program planned.

Thank you.
