May 22-24, 2009 - Revolution

As Council Relationships Chair, I have been approached by Val Paniccia, Commander (Ret., LAPD) to see if the Western Los Angeles County Council has any interest in participating as an exhibitor, like we did at "Children's Day," in a three day event upcoming in May and focusing on the teens of the San Fernando Valley.

As with Children's Day, this event, called "Revolution" is sponsored in part by the San Fernando Valley Coalition on Gangs, and the faith community in the Valley as well.

The event is May 22-24, 2009 at the Birmingham High School stadium in Van Nuys.

In my opinion, our best exhibit would show off Venturing and Exploring as resources to the teen community.

As with Children's Day, this would be a "Membership" event as opposed to a "Relationships" event, where we might obtain interest cards completed by the teens attending the event.

Unfortunately, I and some others in the Council will be out of town that weekend because of the BSA National Annual Meeting in Orlando, FL, during the preceding week.

Consequently I am unavailable to plan and participate in this event.

Thus, we would need to develop leadership for this project from volunteers or professionals in the Council who will not be attending the National Meeting.

If you have an interest in spearheading this opportunity for the council, please e-mail david@karpmediation.com.

This appears to be another phenomenal chance for our council to focus community attention on what we do.

Please let me hear from you.

Thanks.

David I. Karp
Relationships Chair
Western Los Angeles County Council BSA
